Sandra Amundsen

“I have a dream.”

 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Sandra is a dedicated professional with a lifelong commitment to advocacy, education, and empowerment within the Deaf and hard of hearing community. Her career began in education, where she served as an American Sign Language (ASL) professor across a wide range of institutions, including community colleges, high schools, private schools, universities, and corporate environments. Through these roles, she cultivated a passion for fostering inclusive learning spaces and equipping students with the tools to communicate and connect across diverse communities.

Sandra later transitioned into a new career path as a Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) counselor, where she spent seven years supporting individuals with disabilities as they navigated career development and employment opportunities. This experience deepened her understanding of systemic barriers and strengthened her commitment to advocacy-based support. In October of last year, she began her current role as an Employment Specialist focused on serving Deaf and hard of hearing consumers, where she continues to help individuals overcome obstacles and achieve their employment goals.

Outside of her professional work, Sandra enjoys spending time in nature through hiking and walking, activities that bring balance and inspiration to her life. She is also currently writing a book that shares her personal journey, including her experiences with domestic violence, with the goal of completing it next year. Through both her professional and personal endeavors, Sandra strives to be a source of hope, empowerment, and positive change for others.
